Our recommendations

Four options.
One careful choice.

Nexus recommends ISDT based on positive experience within our team and among our customers. These are charger options for compatible packs, rather than a universal list for our entire lineup. For any pack outside their supported limits, ask Nexus for a suitable recommendation.

01 / EVERYDAY DUAL CHANNEL

ISDT K2 Air

A bench-friendly option for compatible battery packs, with two independent channels and AC or DC input.

AC / DCManufacturer-listed lithium configurations: 1–6S; chemistry limits apply
Power input
AC 100–240V / DC 10–30V
Published output range
DC 1–30V
Lithium profiles
LiFe, LiIon, LiPo, LiHv

Choose a different compatible model if your pack’s chemistry or series count falls outside the supported range.

02 / COMPACT DC CHARGER

ISDT Air8

A compact single-channel choice for compatible battery packs. Requires a compatible external DC power supply.

DC inputManufacturer-listed lithium configurations: 1–8S; chemistry limits apply
Power input
DC 10–34V
Published output range
DC 1–35V
Lithium profiles
LiFe, LiIon, LiPo, LiHv, ULiHv

Check the exact model revision and power-supply requirements. ISDT lists 1–8S lithium support, while its manual lists a 35V output maximum. Confirm manufacturer compatibility for any setup requiring more than 35V, including an 8S pack rated at 4.45V per cell.

03 / AC + DC DUAL CHANNEL

ISDT K4

Two independent channels for compatible battery packs, with an integrated AC input and a DC input option.

AC / DCManufacturer-listed lithium configurations: 1–8S; chemistry limits apply
Power input
AC 100–240V / DC 10–34V
Published output range
DC 1–34V
Lithium profiles
LiFe, LiIon, LiPo: 1–8S

LiHv and ULiHv are limited to 1–7S. Check the manual for chemistry-specific limits.

04 / HIGHER SERIES COUNTS

ISDT X16

An AC-powered dual-channel option for supported higher-voltage packs. Plan the balance connection before purchasing.

AC inputManufacturer-listed lithium configurations: 2–16S; chemistry limits apply
Power input
AC 100–240V
Published output range
DC 10–72V
Lithium profiles
LiFe, LiPo, LiHv, ULiHv

ISDT lists 2–16S support but also a 10V minimum output. Obtain manufacturer confirmation for low-voltage packs below that stated range. No dedicated LiIon profile is listed; ask Nexus about a charger explicitly compatible with your Li-ion pack. Uses an 18-pin balance interface.

Before you order: check the exact product revision, included cables, balance adapters, and power supply. A charger’s maximum current is not your pack’s recommended charge current.

Two common charging paths

Balance leads.
Or a protected pack.

Choose the charging approach designed for your battery. A matching connector alone does not confirm compatibility.

External balance charging

For a multi-series pack designed to use an external balance charger, connect both the main charge leads and the correctly wired balance connector, following the charger manual. The main leads carry charging current; the balance connection lets the charger monitor and balance individual series groups.

Charging through a BMS

If your pack has a suitable BMS and is designed for charging through its protected charge connection, a compatible battery charger using constant current / constant voltage (CC/CV) may be appropriate. Its voltage, current limit, chemistry, and charge-termination behavior must match the pack specifications. Confirm that the BMS provides the required protection and balancing.

A BMS does not replace a charger. Do not bypass the protected charge path or assume a generic DC supply is suitable because its voltage matches.

Voltage matters

Every series count.
The right charge voltage.

Use the full-charge voltage specified for your exact pack. This reference covers every series count from 1S to 16S for the per-cell charge limits shown.

Use only the column that matches your cells: pack charge voltage = series groups × the specified per-cell charge-voltage limit. Parallel count affects capacity and current capability, rather than multiplying pack voltage. If your pack specifies a lower charge limit, follow that limit.

These values are conditional reference calculations, not universal settings or a charger compatibility chart. Not every Li-ion or LiPo cell uses 4.20V, and not every LiFePO4 cell or pack specifies 3.65V. Never apply the LiHv or ULiHv voltages to cells that are not explicitly rated for them. Other chemistries and cell limits require their own charging specifications.

Some ISDT manuals list a 4.10V-per-cell default for the LiIon profile. Check the actual charge settings against your cell and pack specifications; do not rely on the profile name alone. Each charger must support the required voltage, chemistry, series count, current settings, and connections.

Before the first charge

A few checks.
A better setup.

  1. Chemistry and cell count: select the correct battery profile and series count.
  2. Voltage and current: set voltage according to the pack specification and charge current at or below its permitted limit; account for cells, BMS, wiring, and connector limits.
  3. Power input: confirm AC or DC requirements and available input power.
  4. Connections: verify polarity, balance pinout, and the intended charge port.
  5. Charging conditions: follow the battery and charger instructions. Supervise charging in a ventilated area away from flammable materials; do not charge a damaged pack.

A few useful answers

Before you
plug in.

Can a charger support different battery pack configurations?

Yes, when each pack falls within the charger’s supported chemistry, series-count range, voltage, and current limits. Verify and select the correct settings for each pack. A higher maximum series count does not guarantee compatibility with every smaller pack.

Can I charge using only the balance connector?

These models have separate main power outputs and balance ports. Use the main output for charging current and connect the balance harness when using external balance charging, as directed by the manual. Do not treat the balance harness as a substitute for the main charge leads.

Can one connector handle both charging and discharge?

Some packs use a shared charge/discharge port; others use separate ports. It depends on the pack wiring and BMS. Use the connection specified for your battery, with the correct polarity and current rating.

Is every ISDT charger suitable for every Nexus pack?

No. Nexus’s brand recommendation reflects experience, while compatibility depends on the exact pack and charger. Confirm the chemistry, charge settings, current, series range, and wiring before use.

What should I send Nexus for a recommendation?

Send your order number or pack model, chemistry, series/parallel configuration, capacity, maximum charge current, BMS details, and a photo or pinout of the charge and balance connectors.
